Enhancement package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 is available. Here, we’ll tell you what new functions you can look forward to in the application.
Updates without expensive upgrades – that’s how SAP wants to keep its software on the cutting edge while constantly adding in new functions. Enhancement packages (EHPs) are currently available for SAP ERP, SAP Customer Relationship Management, and SAP NetWeaver. The underlying idea is to update these and other SAP offerings without compromising their core functionality or interrupting operations any longer than necessary.
EHPs are cumulative, which means that installing one also includes the business functions introduced in previous packages. You can also select which individual functions you want to install by means of the Switch Framework.
Four enhancement packages are already available for SAP ERP. While the hotly anticipated EHP 5 – originally planned for release in mid-2010 – has been delayed, you can get an advance look in the article “Preview: EHP 5.”
According to Product Availability Matrix in the SAP Service Marketplace, however,EHP 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 became available on May 12, 2011.
In this article, we’ll tell you a bit more about the new functions on the way in EHP 5. Meanwhile, if you’re using an older release of SAP ERP, Upgrade Factory – a service provided by SAP Consulting – can ease your transition to the latest version. A team of technical experts will produce an update schedule and support your company in planning and carrying out the corresponding project. For more on this service, check out the article “SAP ERP 6.0 at a Fixed Price.” We’ve also compiled the details involved in installing EHPs in “EHP Just a Few Clicks Away.”

The new functions in EHP 5
SAP ERP is a core application that maps all of the key processes at work within companies, such as in finance, human resource management, procurement, logistics, product development, production, service, and sales. It includes support for more than 25 industries. Meanwhile, the latest version (6.0) offers over 600 new functions, including BI features, integration of Microsoft Duet, GRC components, and additional options for payroll.
Enhancement package 5 presents even more new features for human resource departments. With its augmented talent management functions, employees can generate recruiting schedules, manage ongoing training, and assemble succession plans. EHP 5 also includes further components for analysis. Meanwhile, the added BI functions come courtesy of the SAP Crystal solutions, and you can generate and publish reports through XBRL.
EHP 5 also offers a number of improvements for the manufacturing industry, such as the ability to synchronize bills of materials for engineering and production. The package also makes it possible to read RFID chips and barcodes.
