For SAP, 2010 was all about mobile apps for iPhone and iPad, on-demand software, and in-memory technology. Let’s not forget about the year’s new software releases, though: SAP Business One 8.8 came to market just in time for CeBIT, and SAP technology chief Vishal Sikka surprised those in attendance at the fall SAP TechEd event by announcing the latest version of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform.

SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign go mobile

In 2010, SAP Business One and SAP Business ByDesign became available in app format on Apple’s App Store. Customers who purchased SAP Business One 8.8 this year can make use of the corresponding app, as well; for more, see “Free for iPhone: SAP Business One.”

At the IBIS conference held back in January in Würzburg, Germany, Peter Lorenz – executive vice president of SAP software for small businesses and midsize companies – showed a select group of attendees how SAP Business ByDesign works on iPhone (more details available in “SAP Business ByDesign Goes Mobile”). For example, the app updates all current tasks with a good shake of the device, whose touchscreen also makes the software easy to use.

The SAP Business ByDesign app enables you to manage accounts and contacts, as well as create orders while on the move. It covers all of a company’s key business processes, including finances, accounting, and purchasing.

Meanwhile, Apple’s devices aren’t the only ones in demand; smartphones running on the Android operating system are also on the rise. For more on Android-supported BI software from the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio, click here.

The CRM edition handles crucial marketing functions and is the least expensive of the three, with each license costing €79 per month (10 licenses minimum). The ERP package runs customers a €24,900 one-time fee and €133 every month, and the Professional Service starter set €34,900 and €133, respectively.

According to SAP, customers can go live with the software in as little as three weeks. To read through everything once more, point your browser here.

Developing apps in two minutes – impossible? Not with SAP Gateway, a project presented at the Berlin SAP TechEd event that now offers an interface between SAP Business Suite and development environments. Programmers can use it to create mini-programs even without knowledge of ABAP.
